Darrel Millsap

Darrel Millsap graduated from Art Center in Pasadena in 1956 with a degree in Commercial Illustration. He began his career working for Fred Kopp under Hector Huerta. He moved to San Diego a few years later, joining Frye and Smith. He made the jump a few years later and teamed up with Robert Kinyon, creating Millsap/Kinyon Illustration. They thrived for years until Robert passed from Cancer. The final move for Darrel was creating his own company, Darrel Millsap Illustration. He painted multiple book covers, dabbled in some incredible fine art and teamed up with Phillips Ramsey, where they created some of the most iconic San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park ads in history. Darrel retired in 1999. Darrel was one of San Diego’s best “unknown” illustrators of his time.
