CHINESE EMPEROR KANGXI, EMPERESS AND DRAGON RIVER BOAT IVORY FIGURINES MANCHU QING DYNASTY APPROX. 1880

We are presenting for sale a very ornately detailed expertly hand carved set of 3 large ivory figurines of the KANGXI CHINESE EMPEROR SHENGZU of QING, his EMPRESS and DRAGON RIVER BOAT.

The two imperial figures are Emperor Kangxi (1654-1722) who was the longest-reigning emperor in the history of China and his Empress.  Plus an extremely fine carved Dragon River Boat that commemorates the great southern inspection tour that the Emperor conducted during his reign down the Yangtze river, as represented in the famous southern tour scrolls.

The figurines measure 4.5” wide by 10” tall by 3.5 deep.  The Dragon River Boat measures 12″ wide by 11″ tall by 3″ deep.  They are all in excellent condition.

These were obtained from the widow of a Christian Missionary who obtained them in the 1920’s while posted in China.  An appraisal and authentication is included with the sale.  These are hand carved elephant ivory and the sale is consistent with the Federal Laws on antique elephant ivory.  Consistent with those rules the ivory has not been repaired or modified.  The items are over 100 years old and imported prior to 1982.
